Hindu Dharma, its rituals and festivals are always in harmony with the nature. In the sense,
all festivals and its rituals are associated with the nature and coincides when there is a change in nature,change in the planetary movements, moon’s phases, moon’s placement in a specific constellation and change in sun’s course which indicates climatic/seasonal change. All these changes are in accordance with the nature.

The SUN, MOON and Nakshatras, whose influence on any earthly event are recorded from krita yuga and references from our great and divine epics, The Ramayana and The Mahabharatha.This shows the significance and importance to consider its vibration and its effect on worldly matters, which is always bound to the nature’s influence.

To categorize all the Hindu festivals, we can bring it to 3 categories.

  • Sun – Based on Sun’s movement through the zodiac, sun’s direction of movement (North (Uttarayana) and South (Dhakshinayana)).
  • Moon – Based on Moon’s Phases called ‘ Thithi ‘ and its occurrence in a particular solar month.
  • Star (Nakshatra) – Moon’s placement in a constellation (Nakshatra) and its occurrence in a particular solar month.
